Whitewater Kayaking in Nepal
Silkair return ticktet from STA travel: $1193/-
10 days whitewater kayaking with Equator Expeditions: USD400/-
Insurance with AIG Singapore for 11 days trip (worldwide): $95/-
Kayaking season in Nepal: Apr-Jun, Sep-Nov
Equator's 10 day trips (Sun Khosi, Tamur or Karnali) usually in May and late Sep/early Oct.

1 Dec: Met Yongzhi and his friends (Jason, Naresh & Hui Fen) on Silkair flight. Arrived in Kathmandu. Stayed at Tradition Hotel.

2 Dec: Left Kathmandu for Sukute Beach Resort. Chris Ledbury (English) and Kuni (Japanese Senior) did rafting while I did kayaking at Bhote Khosi lower section (grade 3 to 3+). Kayaking guides were Razu and Stenzin.

3 Dec: Chris and Kuni did rafting while I attempted kayaking at Bhote Khosi upper section (above dam; grade 4 to 5). Capsized and swam. Joined Chris and Kuni for rafting instead. Great rafting due to the huge rapids and waves. Chris and Kuni left for Kathmandu in the afternoon. Walked uphil to Balephi town in the afternoon.

4 Dec: Kayaking at Bhote Khosi lower section with Razu. Walked downhill to Sukute Village.

5 Dec: Kayaking at Balephi Khola (grade 3 to 4) with Sam. Balephi Khola joins Bhote Khosi at Balephi town. Took local bus back to Kathmandu in the afternoon with Sam. Stayed the night at Tradition Hotel.

6 Dec: Took local bus to Pokhara from Kathmandu. Visited Phewa Taal (lake) and took the row boat ferry to Varahi Mandir (Hindu Temple on the small island in the lake). Stayed at Hotel Peace Nepal.

7 Dec: Took local bus to put in spot near to Baglung Town. Kayaking at Kali Gandaki (grade 3 to 4) with Sam. Pitched tent at a sandy spot with a few houses and lots of children. Had dinner (Daal Bhaat) at one of the houses. 4 children stayed there: Lakshmi (15), Parkash (12), Sitar (10) and small boy with long name (8). Their parents were working in Qatar and Kuwait; other houses nearby lived their relatives. Despite the humble conditions, it was a very warm and homely feeling to have dinner (cooked by Lakshmi using firewood) with the children. Stayed overnight in tent. Cold face. Brr...

8 Dec: Breakfast with the children. Very nice 'kalo chia' (black tea) made by Lakshmi. Broke camp and continued kayaking down Kali Gandaki. When we reached Seti Beni town, it was flatwater (due to dam) all the way until take out point Myrmar town. Took the local bus back to Pokhara Damside Bus Park. As it was late, we stayed the night at dingy Hari Krishna Hotel at Damside.

9 Dec: Supposed to go Seti River upper section for kayaking, but I woke up with back pain. So we went to Pokhara Lakeside instead. Had a good shower, and rented the rowboat for a leisurely row around Phewa Taal. Had lunch at Japanese restaurant Koto with Sam. After lunch, went for a walk along Phewa Taal towards Maya Devi Village (restaurant). Saw the paragliders landing at landing spot near Maya Devi Village. On the way back, saw some singer (presumably) filming MTV with Phewa Taal as backdrop. Stayed the night at Hotel Peace Nepal.

10 Dec: Took the tourist bus from Pokhara back to Kathmandu. Did some shopping. Stayed the night at Tradition Hotel.

11 Dec: Went to airport and took the flight back home.
